Rhino Safari Camp is an authentic, owner operated, luxury rustic bush camp.

We can accommodate 14 people in 7 twin bedded rooms (with children on camp-beds where applicable and by prior arrangement). Our rooms are stilted, built of wood with extended thatched eves and reed half walls, each with its own panoramic view of Lake Kariba. Each room has its own en-suite flush toilet, plentiful hot/cold running water, hand basin and open air shower. The camp grounds are untamed and unfenced, wildlife is free to roam through the camp grounds, elephant often visiting camp during siesta time, browsing on the dense jesse bush next to the rooms.

No fences – no generator – just the sounds and sights of nature.

We offer guests their creature comforts, deliberately comfortable beds, jumbo size walk-in mosquito nets, hot showers, tasty freshly prepared wholesome meals, cold drinks and memorable wildlife experiences. Camp guides, hostess and staff interact with guests during all public times, sharing meals and experiences.

Game viewing is normally limited to 7 guests per activity, allowing unobstructed wildlife experiences in our open game viewing vehicles, but our vehicles are designed to accommodate larger groups of up to 10 guests each. Our guides escort guests to the rooms at night and the camp manager and guide will host guests during meals, tea time and around the evening drinks by the fire on the beach.

Weather permitting (most of the time) we enjoy dinner in our open air dining area beneath the stars.

We do not run a generator (unless in emergencies) and rely on a solar system for recharging camera batteries and electronic equipment, gas for cooking and refrigeration, and use wood fired boilers for hot water. Our location on the shorelines close to the waters of Lake Kariba evokes the calming sounds and sights of water into the safari experience.

WILDLIFE & BIRDLIFE

This is Big 5 country – the Matusadona National Park is a designated IPZ (Intensive Protection Zone) for the highly endangered black rhinoceros, albeit they are very elusive and difficult to find, we do have sightings of spoor when our on walks. Lion, buffalo or leopard can been sighted on activities and our concession is like a refuge for elephants and they are thus regularly seen, normally up close as they don’t feel threatened by our presence. Over 350 documented bird species, resident and migratory, including seasonal Narina Trogon (rare), raptors, owls, hornbills, plovers, herons, egrets, kingfishers, sunbirds and bee-eaters. We have a healthy population of hippos and crocodiles in the area. Lake fishing includes the legendary Tiger Fish, numerous Bream species, Cornish Jack, Vundu, Bottlenose and Catfish.
